O'Melveny has an immediate need for a Director of Information Services. This role can be based out of any one of our US offices. The primary function of this position is to manage the research and records functions for the Firm. This position oversees the work of the Library and Records Departments and supervises the employees in these two departments. The role is also responsible for evaluating and implementing technology solutions to better serve the attorneys and staff and to work with the department teams to develop innovative solutions for the functions that the departments perform. The position is responsible for preparing and managing to the budget and for working with various vendors to negotiate contracts and ensure that contracted services are being provided.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The position is responsible for the following functions:
Manages the managers and staff of the Library and Records Departments , including preparing evaluations, working with managers to evaluate staff and making compensation decisions.
Works with managers to handle performance issues with staff.
Evaluates candidates for positions and makes hiring decisions.
Prepares and manages the budget for resources and personnel.
Works with managers to make resource purchasing decisions.
Evaluates new technology options to provide better resources and services to attorneys and staff.
Works with other support departments to implement technology solutions.
Negotiates contracts for resources and services and ensures that the contracted resources and services are being provided.
Works with staff to develop and implement procedures for the functions performed by the departments.
Works with staff and vendors to develop training programs for attorneys, staff and department staff.
Develops goals for the departments and approves special projects for staff
Manages or performs special projects to provide better services to attorneys and staff
Works with KM Department on the development of external resources to provide through KM delivery mechanisms.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
Masters of Library or Information Science or related Masters degree required
Ten years experience working in a law firm or legal environment required
Five years experience managing staff, including preparing performance evaluations and making
compensation decisions required
Experience negotiating contracts preferred
Experience preparing and managing budgets preferred
Knowledge of legal research resources required
Knowledge of legal research technology required
Knowledge of records concepts and technology preferred
