Fennemore has a new, remote opportunity for a full-time DIRECTOR OF EMERGING TECHNOLOGY & INNOVATION to join our growing firm. The Director of Emerging Technology and Innovation is responsible for driving technological advancement and innovative practices within our law firm. This role bridges the gap between legal professionals, clients, and technology, ensuring our firm remains at the forefront of legal tech innovation. This position can be performed remotely or from any of our office locations. Occasional travel is necessary.
Responsibilities:
In partnership with the Chief Enterprise Officer and Fennemore Labs, lead the firm's innovation strategy, identifying and implementing emerging technologies to enhance legal service delivery and operational efficiency;
Collaborate with practice group leaders and firm management to understand technological needs and develop solutions tailored to specific practice areas;
Oversee the evaluation, selection, and implementation of new legal technologies, including conducting pilot programs and proof of concept testing;
Stay abreast of LegalTech trends and emerging technologies, providing regular updates and analysis to firm leadership;
Manage innovation projects and legal technology implementations across the firm;
Develop guidelines and best practices for technology adoption within practice groups;
Foster strategic relationships with technology vendors, industry organizations, and innovation thought leaders;
Coordinate with the Information Services team to align innovation initiatives with the firm's overall technology strategy;
Lead change management efforts to facilitate the adoption of new technologies and innovative processes;
Provide technology expertise and guidance to firm leadership on strategic technology investments;
Participate in the development of systems training, documentation, and adoption metrics for implemented technology; and
Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a technology-related field required;
JD and Master’s degree preferred;
Minimum of 5-7 years of related experience in legal practice or legal operations, preferably in a large law firm setting required;
Strong understanding of legal tech and emerging technologies in the legal field;
Excellent project management and coordination skills;
Proven track record of managing innovation projects and technology implementations;
Experience with legal-specific technologies (e.g., e-discovery, practice management software, legal research tools);
Knowledge of coding languages and front-end technologies preferred;
Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences;
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities;
Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with external partners;
Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
Ability to handle sensitive information discreetly;
Occasional travel; and
Team-oriented with a proactive problem-solving approach
