What you’ll be doing:
Providing employment law advice and counseling to CARFAX leadership and the Human Resources team on a broad range of issues, including recruiting, employee relations, performance management, leaves of absence, disability accommodations, wage and hour requirements, terminations, internal investigations, compensation, benefits, privacy, immigration and employee classification
Drafting and refining employment-related documents and agreements to align with best practices, including offer letters, employment agreements, separation agreements, confidentiality agreements and policies that affect employees
Advising on internal investigations, partnering with investigators, reviewing investigation debriefs and reports and advising on investigation processes and training programs
Partnering with Human Resources on building processes for ensuring proper and consistent application of federal and state laws, rules and regulations as well as CARFAX policies, processes and procedures
Supervising compliance with federal and state laws, rules and regulations and CARFAX policies
Monitoring legislation, regulations, case law, government enforcement activities and emerging trends in labor and employment law to proactively provide advice to CARFAX leadership and the Human Resources team
What we’re looking for:
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
Currently licensed to practice law in Virginia or currently eligible to be admitted under a Virginia Corporate Counsel Certificate
At least 10 years’ experience specializing in labor and employment matters, including both law firm and in-house experience, with significant and progressive responsibility
Expertise in federal and state employment law required with experience in Canada strongly preferred
Strong analytical skills and a practical and creative problem-solving approach
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal concepts to non-lawyers
Proven ability to work in a demanding environment, both independently and as part of a team, with a hands-on attitude and a willingness to get things done
