Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and passionate Lead T-Visa Attorney to join our team. This role will be critical in providing legal representation to clients seeking T-Visas and other forms of immigration relief for survivors of human trafficking. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the legal intricacies of T-Visa applications and be committed to working with survivors of trafficking to secure their legal status and advocate for their rights.
As the Lead T-Visa Attorney, you will manage a caseload of T-Visa petitions and related immigration matters, collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, and take on a leadership role within the department. You will also have the opportunity to mentor junior attorneys, provide strategic guidance, and influence policy advocacy efforts aimed at supporting trafficking survivors.
Key Responsibilities:
Case Management: Manage a high-volume caseload of T-Visa applications, including preparation, filing, follow-up, and appeals of petitions and related immigration relief applications.
Client Advocacy: Provide expert legal advice and counsel to survivors of human trafficking, ensuring their rights are upheld throughout the immigration process.
Leadership & Mentorship: Lead and supervise a team of immigration attorneys and support staff. Offer mentorship, case strategy guidance, and professional development to junior attorneys.
Court & Agency Representation: Represent clients in administrative hearings, interviews with USCIS, and appeals before the Immigration Court and Board of Immigration Appeals.
Legal Compliance: Stay up-to-date on changes in immigration laws, policies, and procedures related to T-Visas and trafficking victims. Ensure firm practices align with regulatory updates.
Outreach & Education: Engage in community outreach, public education, and policy advocacy efforts related to human trafficking, victim rights, and available immigration relief options.
Record Maintenance: Maintain accurate, timely documentation and case records in compliance with firm and regulatory standards.
Qualifications:
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active bar membership in any state or Jurisdiction.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in immigration law, with a focus on T-Visa applications, U-Visas, and other forms of relief for victims of crime or persecution.
Proven experience in managing complex immigration cases and a high caseload, particularly in the area of human trafficking.
Strong understanding of federal and state laws related to human trafficking, immigration relief, and the criminal justice system.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with clients, colleagues, and external stakeholders.
Leadership experience, with the ability to manage and mentor a team of attorneys and support staff.
Compassionate, client-centered approach to legal practice, with a strong commitment to social justice and advocacy for vulnerable populations.
Experience working with survivors of trauma and understanding of trauma-informed legal practices.
Fluency in Spanish required.
